Saudi Arabia has been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2025–2027 term, during the 69th General Conference of the agency held in Vienna.
The Board of Governors, composed of 35 member states, is one of the IAEA’s main decision-making bodies. It is tasked with setting policies, approving the budget, and overseeing technical programs related to the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
This achievement reflects the international community’s renewed confidence in the Kingdom’s constructive role in supporting global cooperation and its commitment to promoting peace, security, and the peaceful use of nuclear technology in areas such as clean energy, healthcare, and environmental protection.
Saudi Arabia had previously served on the Board from 2022 to 2024. Its re-election highlights the Kingdom’s continued active presence in international forums and its support for advancing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
